Arootin Mirzakhani’s video (to) conceive confronts the viewers with their own concepts of gender roles and images. Like a voyeur, the viewer sees the interior of the artist’s private room, where he presents his body in front of the camera in various lascivious poses. The video shows the artist’s confrontation with his own body, which functions as the projection surface for continuously intermixing male, female and androgynous identities. (Sonja Wunderlich)
